DIY Slimming Body Wrap 9 – Apple Cider Vinegar Edition

DIY Slimming Body Wrap 9 - Apple Cider Vinegar Edition

Apple cider vinegar is amazing in many ways. One of those ways it weight loss. It helps detox the body while making the skin soft. Here is a great new way to use apple cider vinegar.

DIY Slimming Body Wrap 9 - Apple Cider Vinegar Edition

In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup of lotion with 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar. It should look like the picture below. You don’t want to skip this next step because it is very important. Take a hand towel and wet it down with water as hot as you can stand it. Wring out the excess water then place it on the area you want to wrap for a few minutes until it cools. This opens up the pores, making the wrap twice as effective. It is worth the few extra minutes, trust me.

Immediately after, spread the mixture in a thick layer over your skin in the area you want to reduce but do not rub it in. Wrap the area with several layers of clear plastic wrap then use ace bandages to wrap on top of that. Make this process much easier with the tutorial below.

Leave the wrap on for around 6 hours. Rest and relax while you have the wrap on. You can move around but keep it to a minimum or your wrap may roll up or the contents squeeze out. If you do then this will be your reward.

Bonus tutorial for frequent wrappers:

When I do a wrap I end up using 4 ace bandages and I was finding it a pain in the butt so I decided to make them into one long bandage to make my life incredibly easier.

All you need is some fabric glue. Start with two of the bandages and add a little glue to the edge of one of the bandages, like this.

 IMG_20130726_133618

Simply press the two ends together and let it dry for several hours. Once dry, repeat with your two new double rolls and allow that to dry for several hours.

Congrats. You now have one large wrap. I had two sets of bandages and did both at the same time. The fabric glue should be strong enough that you don’t need to reinforce it but you can if you like. You shouldn’t be wrapping yourself tight enough that it pulls on the bond anyway. If you have a sewing machine and that is easier for you then feel free to sew them together instead of using glue.

  • I made a wrap of my own. I used the Apple Cidar Vinegar plus I used coffee grounds. What I did was mix the lotion…I didn’t have skin firming, but I had dry skin lotion and then I had a bit left of my cellulite be gone serum, so I mixed the lotion with the cellulite serum which was about 1/4 c to 1/2 c. Then I added almost a 1/3 c coffee grinds and a Tbsp Apple Cidar Vinegar. Mixed it up and applied it. Wrapped it in plastic wrap and then realized I didn’t have any ace bandages but I had a couple of those waist slimmers. I had one for the top and bottom. After I wrapped it, I put those slimmers on and it worked really well. It held everything in place. I will let you know tomorrow how it went.

Can I drink water while having the wrap on or will it hurt the process

    • Mel B

You can drink water. I have drunk water and eaten during wraps and gotten the same results. In fact you should be drinking water. Not guzzling it but drinking some so you don’t get too dehydrated during the process.

I make my own facial toner with apple cider vinegar, green tea, witch hazel and basil…It makes a large amount considering you only need a tiny splash a day. I’m going to try your wrap using it. The basil and green tea are also good for skin so it should only help!

Sounds good. If you want to take before and after pictures and write a brief description and bio I would be happy to post your wrap. Send me an email at drkorchid@ymail.com with the info and pictures if you are interested. Same goes for anyone else who has a wrap recipe they love and want to share. Before and after pictures a must. Don’t worry, you can remain anonymous if you wish or include a headshot with bio.

Can I leave my belly button ring in while I have the wrap on?..

    • Mel B

Of course, so long as it is completely healed and not a fresh piercing it shouldn’t affect it at all. You may want to clean it out thoroughly when you are through though.

  • bekah

    what can I use If I don’t have a wrap ?

    • Mel B

If you don’t have a professional grade wrap you can use plastic wrap and ace bandages as I recommend in the post. You can find plastic wrap in the grocery store near the tin foil and plastic bags and ace bandages in the first aid section. If you are lucky and have a dollar store nearby, most dollar stores carry both and you can get them cheaply. One roll of plastic wrap will do several wraps. As for the ace bandages, how many you need will depend on how large you are. I am a small framed person and I used 4 of them. You want them to cover your whole stomach overlapping slightly. See Slimming Body Wrap Number 2 for how the wrap should look on your stomach. http://theskinniestyou.com/diy-slimming-body-wrap-2/

  • Ontaya

does this have an instant effect and how often can you do it

    • Mel B

The process takes 4 to 6 hours and you can do it every two or three days. Waiting closer to 3 days in between wraps is recommended but you can get away with 2 in a pinch but I wouldn’t do that often.

  • Tracey

How long does it last if I did it twice a week and worked out everyday?

    • Mel B

That is an excellent question. The body wraps work by shrinking the cells by eliminating water and sometimes toxins (depending on the wrap you choose) by using a combination of heat and compression. If you are exercising every day and eating healthy then doing the wraps twice a week on top of that would make them super effective. They are still a temporary thing and the water weight will come back, especially that time of the month but you might be able to go longer between wraps. You might be able to go 4 or 5 days between wraps or even a week. If you firm up your core and other cellulite prone areas you may not need to do the wraps at all anymore because it is the fat cells that retain the water and not muscle. The more muscle you have the less wraps you need to do. Hope that helps.

  • can this wrap use on thighs?

  • montrielle b.

are there any ways to wrap around a fresh piercing , and can you wear it to sleep ?

    • Mel B

DO NOT wrap if you have a fresh piercing. Wait until it is fully healed. As for wrapping in your sleep you can totally do that if you like. It all depends on your level of comfort. I tried it once and ended up taking it off because I was too hot and uncomfortable but if you don’t mind it then there is no reason it can’t be done while you sleep. It might be messy though so I recommend sleeping on a towel or something just in case it leaks while you are sleeping.

Can i sleep with the wrap over night?

  • What if I do nt hve acr bandages??
Is their any subtitute I cn use fr ace bandages??

    • Mel B

Yes. You can use control top pantie hose with the legs cut off if you like. Or you can use a stomach cincher if you have one of those on hand. One good place to find cheap ace bandages though is the dollar store. They usually have big boxes of them and usually in pretty colors too like pink and purple. The ace bandages are still the best way to wrap in my book because you can control the tightness and they are by far the cheapest of the solutions unless you already have a pair of pantie hose laying around that you don’t care if you destroy. Here is how to make a wrap with pantie hose for those who want to know. DIY Slimming Body Wrap 21 – White Chocolate Edition

When I finish the 6 hours, is it okay to shower immediately or do I need to just wipe it off with a wet washcloth?

    • Mel B

Either. If you want to shower you can or you can use a wet wash cloth if you don’t feel like showering. I use a wet wash cloth or damp paper towel most of the time.

  • Lynea

Can you mix apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper and cinnamon for a wrap?

    • Mel B

You sure can. You can mix any of the single ingredients used on this site to create your own wrap. I just like to keep it simple to keep the cost down and to show the power of each individual ingredient.

  • I tried this and my mixture did not look like urs! It was very watery…I did a 1/4 cup lotion and 1tbsp of vinegar. I’ll be getting a different type of lotion to try again but I want to make sure it’s 1 tbsp and not 1 tsp lol…thank u!!

    • Mel B

Yes. It is one tablespoon and not one teaspoon. Mine was pretty watery too when I did it. I recommend getting the thickest lotion you can find for this one. Something in a jar rather than a bottle would be your best bet. Like a body butter or a cream. Another thing you can do is to thicken it up with some clay. Add a clay mask in addition to the apple cider vinegar and the lotion. Stir in clay into the lotion first then add the acv. Not only will this make your mixture thicker it will also make it more effective too.

  • Nicola

Just curious- Has anyone tried this by putting spanx type pants on top instead of bandages?

    • Mel B

No. I haven’t tried that but have tried control top pantie hose and a stomach cincher and both worked really well. Spanx I am sure would too.

  • Audra

I’m gonna try this tonight… I’m soooo excited…wish me luck

  • Lexi

Does it have to be 6 hours or can it be more
Also what would happen if you did use it everyday

    • Mel B

I usually do it for about 4 to 6 hours but you can leave it on for overnight if you are comfortable enough with it on. I tried it overnight once and couldn’t stand it so took it off a couple hours into it but that depends on you. During the day though I probably would stick to about 6 hours at the most. No more than 8 if you get stuck for some reason and can’t take it off on time. What would happen if you use it every day is that you would be extremely tired and dehydrated. You would feel wrung out. If you get chronic migraines or have other chronic health problems they could make them worse or trigger them. If you plan to do them regularly then I recommend twice a week at the most.

  • Nancy Nderi

    Will definitely try this out

    Will Coco butter work?

And could this make you sick?

    • Mel B

You could use cocoa butter but you would need to soften it a bit and mix it with something more solid like lotion to keep it on the surface of your skin for the duration of the wrap. It would be easier to choose a cocoa butter lotion. No. Wraps can not make you sick. Wraps are perfectly safe for most people under normal circumstances. If you are really young or pregnant, you shouldn’t do a wrap. If you are recovering from a major surgery and/or have an open wound in the area you intend to wrap then you should not do a wrap. You shouldn’t do wraps everyday or more than once in the same day and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. You can do them as often as every 2 to 3 days though if you are doing them regularly for a prolonged period of time 3 days in between is better. If you feel drained or are getting headaches then space them out more or stop for a little while and start again when you feel you are ready.

Thoughts on using virgin coconut oil homemade lotion?

    • Mel B

I have thought about using coconut oil as a base instead of lotion lots of times but the problem is that it melts above room temperature and will melt in contact with the skin and be absorbed. The point of the mixture is to remain on the skin, so coconut oil is a no go. Sorry. I love it to and wish it would work for this but unfortunately you need a solid. Doesn’t mean you can’t find an all natural lotion to buy somewhere. Might be more expensive though. I look at it this way. The lotion you use in the wrap isn’t actually going into your skin because you wipe it off when you are done. It is just there to hold onto the other ingredients in the wrap so they can absorb into your skin. I just use a cheap lotion that I get from the dollar store. It works well, keeps cost down and I only use it for the wraps and not an everyday lotion. Hope that helps.

  • Seyna

Hey ! Thanks alot for the tips … Can i add ginger powder to the recipe? With apple cider and the cream.

    • Mel B

Yeah. Sure you can. If it were me doing it, I would stir the ground ginger into the lotion first until well mixed and then add the apple cider vinegar and stir again. Please leave us another comment on here and let us know how it turned out if you do both.

  • Cristina Campos

Can use the wrap while im at the gym just on my stomach

    • Mel B

Technically yes but I really wouldn’t recommend it. Homemade wraps can be messy and leak if you move around too much like at the gym. Plus it can be really dehydrating to exercise while doing a wrap. It is best not to go there. Just call it a spa day when you do your wraps and pamper yourself. Or at least take it easy and not move around too much.

  • Can you use just the lotion?

    • Mel B

Yes you can. I did just that in my DIY Slimming Wrap 18 – Surprise Edition. The surprise was that I just used plain lotion and it worked quite well. Adding other items to the lotion just gives it a boost but it is really the heat and the compression that does most of the work. The lotion works as a moisture barrier to create the heat to make the magic happen. So yes. You can use just lotion.

  • roxy

Can I use a sweat band warp instead of the ace bandage? Will it work better in your opinion?

    • Mel B

I have never tried it so I don’t know. You can give it a try and let us know how it works. 🙂

  • ashley

Doing this now I used jergens firminibg lotion olive oil and coffee grinds after I wrapped the plastic I put a spandex tummy tuck on taking it off at 9pm here’s to hopefully a smoother somewhat smaller tummy

  • melissa

Hi, I’m new to wrapping and I’m going to try this starting tonight and over the next few weeks. I was just wondering for how long I should this for, like the amount of weeks I should be doing this. Does it matter? Thanks soooo much.

    • Mel B

I once did it every other day for about a month. Seriously don’t recommend doing that though. It was really draining and since I am prone to migraines it triggered a lot of them. I recommend doing it no more than twice a week and you can do it for a few weeks then take a week break and start again if you like. That is what I recommend.

  • KP

Hi! I have an event next saturday and I want to wrap my stomach so that it’s toned. How quickly do the results show? When should I start wrapping and how often before next saturday?

  • Carmen

    Is it safe is breastfeeding

    • Mel B

It is not for those who are pregnant or breast feeding. Nor anyone who has recently had surgery. You don’t want the mixture getting into the wound. Wait until all wounds are completely closed before attempting.

      • Cynthia Finn

All of the ingredients sound good. So, what would happen if you mix lotion or olivevoil, with coffee, cinnamon, honey, salt, apple cider vinegar, and green tea? And what’s the difference if you use fresh coffee grounds versus brewed?

        • Mel B

Wow that sounds like quite a mix. I don’t know what would happen but you should try it and let us know how it turns out. Also you could use fresh or brewed coffee grounds, makes no difference either way. If you use brewed you also get your cup of coffee out of it.

  • Can i do this in a sauna room since it will open up the pores and of course only at the initial stage since you cant be in a sauna for more than 30 minutes? Thanks

  • Mart

Can u do this when ur pregnant

  • Jordin

I know this was posted long ago but am hoping I can still get an answer! I use a waist trainer could I do this and use the waist trainer instead of the bandages?

  • can you still do simple workouts like power walking with the wraps on?.

    • Mel B

You can if you like so long as you don’t do any bending or twisting with it on. It leaks if you do. Also you don’t want to go too hard as it may dehydrate you faster.

      • B

Hi. Can this be done under waist trainer. If so do I eliminate the ace bandages

        • Mel B

So long as you have something tight (but not too tight) around the plastic wrap then it will work. I have used ace bandages, waist cinchers and even panty hose. All of them worked the same way.

  • I just done a wrap.can this wrap make you sick?wraps don’t last that long? Does it really work and how long do they last?

    • Mel B

No wraps can’t make you sick, unless you are really really dehydrated. That doesn’t happen often and has nothing to do with the wrap and everything to do with how you don’t drink enough fluids. The results from a wrap last about a day and yes they really work. The results are temporary and not a substitute for diet and exercise but a compliment to them.

  • If I work out can they stay longer?

    • Mel B

I don’t recommend working out during the wrap but diet and regular exercise does help the results last a little longer.

  • Are there any more wraps that last longer?

    • Mel B

No. Not with the homemade natural ones. There are ones that are expensive and full of chemicals available on the market. I don’t sell those here.

  • E

These wraps do work. I’ve also learned, while you are relaxing if you rub the area (on the outside of your clothes or the wrap) the friction makes heat and it seems like it works even better

  • Melissa

Is there a reason it should itch? I last about an hour before I couldn’t take the itchiness anymore and all I used was the apple cider vinegar and lotion, I didn’t add anything else to the wrap.

  • Emilia

What are the chances of it not working at all if we don’t do the step to open the pores???

    • Mel B

It will still work but not as well. I have tried it that way many times, mostly just forgot to do it but it still worked.

  • Shantelle

    gotta love this!

  • Donna

Can u sleep with the wrap on over night.

  • Can you use any lotion and do u need the bandages or can u use any other thing to wrap it around
